Who are The Bahamian People?
History depicts Christopher Columbus coming
ashore on San Salvador Island and encountering it's native Lucayan Indians. The Islands of the Bahamas had been inhabited
by the Lucayan's until the very beginnings of the African Slave Trade. Prior to bringing slaves into this
area, our Native Indians were rounded up and relocated to what is now Haiti & The Dominican Republic. The British Arostocrities, owning massive plantations in Jamaica & Barbados, often
chose to reside with their families in the Islands of The Bahamas. Since these Islands were not condusive
to large & sprawling plantation estates, the British found a comfort in protecting their families from
living amongst the autrocities incurred by their slaves on their plantations elsewhere. After closely scrutinizing their slaves, the British carefully selected the calmer natured and more obedient amongst
them to bring home to their Bahamian estates. These slaves were brought to The Bahamas for the sole
purpose of domestic work & landscaping at their personal residence. This select group of African's were
cared for and treated with respect from their British master's in a manner unknown to any other slaves in the western
world. The Bahamian people hold no anomosity toward the British. Their ancestors
were treated as if they were their children. They were taught to appreciate the finest of linen's, gourmet cuisine and
instinctively excelled in proper manners and outstanding hospitality. It is this refined training that has allowed the Bahamian
People to be recognized world-wide for their exceptional ability to cater to their greatest asset, the Bahamas Tourism
Industry! When you arrive in The Bahamas, you can expect to be greated with
respect, a desire to make certain you are comfortable, that you become relaxed and then engaged. Our guests are encouraged
to take in and enjoy the beauty of Our Great Bahama Land! It's no wonder why the world continues to repeat: "It's Better in The Bahamas!"

When was the last time you were able to walk on a beach for hours, without passing
anyone? Kemps Bay Beach is only one, of many miles of EMPTY, sandy beaches in South Andros.
The large majority
of our local people make their living off of the sea, as did generations before them. They are quite happy to stay dry when
not on a spear-fishing or conch & lobster dive trip.
That's why the beach is waiting just for Who?

The back creeks of South Andros have long drawn U.S. Presidents (Jimmy Carter), Royalty
(Queen Elizabeth II), Celebrities (Tiger Woods) and World Class Dignitaries to their Bonefishing Haven. Known for being the
"Bonefishing Capital of the World" Our Bahamas Government intends to keep this Family Island as it's "Eco-Tourism Santuary".
Jim Knowles, the owner and resident manager of Knowles Lodge, is taking in the tranquil view of Deep Creek, in The
Settlement of Black Point, where he was born, and lived for the first 16 years of his life. If you are interested in seeing
The Bahamas like a NATIVE, Pastor Knowles will be pleased to be your personal guide.
Boating in the back creeks
can include tropical bird watching, GIANT wild orchids in abundance and skiddish iguanas. Hiking into areas that appear ,
only to find remenants of a full settlement of families, is certain to raise your curiosity, how these natives
lived.
This area was frequented by slave ships crossing over to America & returning with treasures for their
sponsoring country. This also brought in the Pirates who raided the ships for their wealthy cargo. You may want to try your
hand on our metal detector and go "Treasure Hunting".
Jim is a notable historian of South Andros. Your
tour choice is personalized and virtually endless!
